Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I play up a level?
    • Often times we have participants play up one or multiple grade levels.  Mount Mercy baseball feels that you know your own talents, have a better sense of your age brackets level of competition, have your own individual goals and outcomes for the FBL and therefore can better make a decision as to what division best suits your needs.
    • In the past it has been common for eighth graders to move up a level so that they can play on a regulation sized diamond and get accustomed to it before they move to it the following summer.
    • In the past there have also been many sixth graders move up.  Mount Mercy baseball is no longer offering the 4th-6th grade division and would anticipate many sixth graders will sign up for the Single A Division.
  • What is the cost of the Fall Baseball League?
    • $115 (A, AA, AAA) and $125 (Rookie) to sign up as an individual in the Fall Baseball League.
    • $1,150 (A, AA, AAA) and $1,250 (Rookie) to sign up as a team (recommend 12-14 players per team) in the Fall Baseball League.  In doing simple math, there is a price reduction per person for each player over 10 per team.  Each individual team member must complete the sign up brochure and submit it with all other team members in one envelope.
    • $35 to sign up for the Labor Day Fundamental Camp only.
    • $25 to sign up for the Benchmark Program.  (Only $10 if you are part of the Fall Baseball League.)
  • What is the final date to sign up?
    • The final date to sign up is Tuesday August 17th. Sign ups may be taken after August 17th with a cost of $165.
  • How does this camp differ from others?
    • Mount Mercy baseball believes the Fall Baseball League is about developing skills and experiences on the baseball field while having the opportunity to interact with current college baseball players.  While a game is played each week, the 3 hour time block lies somewhere between a traditional practice and a game.  It really is the opportunity to hone skills in a game situation without the outcome of a season's win-loss record on the line.  Each division has slightly different outlines; please review the 2010 FBL General Information tab on the left hand column for more information.
  • What if I do not have a team to sign up with?
    • Last year we had over 150 participants who signed up individually.  When registration closes, all individual registrants will be placed on a team.
  • I noticed you have a league in Cedar Falls/Waterloo and Cedar Rapids/Marion. Will we have to travel some weeks?
    • Most sign ups will play primarily in their area unless otherwise requested.  In the past teams have indicated a desire to travel in order to see different competition and we do our best to accomodate these requests.  There is the possibility of traveling to either area at some point.  As always scheduling and travel are dependant on who signs up, how many sign up and where sign ups are from.  Until registration is complete Mount Mercy baseball does not know answers to these questions.
  • Last year there was a championship game; are you doing the same again this year?
    • The 2010 Fall Baseball League will not have a championship week.  After a one year trial in 2009 Mount Mercy baseball felt that this concept went against the mission of development.  Winning is very important but sheer results are not the purpose of the Mount Mercy FBL.
  •   What if it rains?
    • There are pre-scheduled rain dates on Saturday and Sunday October 16th & 17th.
    • This web site is the primary means of communication.  If weather is an issue, a notice will be posted on the homepage (www.mountmercybaseball.com) by 10:30 am.  If there is a question about weather, please check the web site before departure.
  •   Will we be able to see results and statistics?
    • Each week results will be posted to this web site.  As an example, look on the bottom portion of the column on the left for the 2009 results and standings.
    • While scorebooks are kept for each game, Mount Mercy baseball does not input individual statistics into a database; therefore, no individual statistics are posted.
  • I don't know where the field is that I'm scheduled to play at?
    • In the lefthand column there is a link titled FBL Fields & Directions.  On this link you can access all field locations.  Clicking on an individual field will take you to the site location via satellite map provided by Google.  On this page you can type in your location to give you turn-by-turn directions to your field that week.
  • If I have a suggestion who do I contact?
    • Over the years Mount Mercy baseball has made many modifications and improvements to the FBL.  These changes have been primarily driven by feedback of our participants.  We encourage candid, but polite feedback so that we can provide the best outcomes possible from league participation.  Please direct all suggestions/remarks to Desi Druschel, Head Baseball Coach at 319-363-1323 ext. 1311 or Frank Fishler, Assistant Baseball Coach/Fall Baseball League Director at 3139-363-1323 ext 1395.
